Most warehouse floor failures don't happen overnight. They build slowly until forklift damage, downtime, or a safety incident forces the conversation.
1. Visible joint spalling
Chipped edges along control joints are the earliest warning sign. Once spalling starts, forklift impact compounds it weekly.
2. Cracks wider than a credit card
Hairline cracks are normal. Cracks you can fit a credit card into mean active movement and need professional evaluation.
3. Forklift operators slowing down in specific zones
If drivers are picking different routes to avoid rough sections, you have a productivity problem masquerading as a floor problem.
4. Dust on inventory and racking
A dusting concrete surface is breaking down at the wear layer. Densifier or polishing usually solves it.
5. Standing water after wash-down
Pooling water means slope or settlement issues — and water under a slab accelerates every other failure mode.
