If your warehouse has unused vertical space, a mezzanine is almost always cheaper than expanding the building footprint.
Common mezzanine uses
- Storage for slow-moving SKUs
- Pick modules for e-commerce fulfillment
- Elevated office space
- Equipment platforms for conveyor or sortation
Engineering matters
Live load ratings, seismic bracing, and column placement all need to be engineered before you order steel. Skipping this step is the #1 reason mezzanine projects blow their budget.
Permitting and life safety
Most mezzanines trigger building permits, sprinkler updates, and code-compliant egress. Get the AHJ involved early.
Tie into existing operations
The best mezzanine designs sit above existing aisles, not in the middle of operations. Plan stair and elevator access where it doesn't disrupt forklift flow.
