Cold storage doors fail differently than ambient warehouse doors. Temperature, humidity, and tighter air sealing all change the equation.
Insulated doors are non-negotiable
Standard sectional doors lose conditioned air constantly. Foam-insulated panels with thermal breaks pay back in energy savings within 2–3 years.
Vertical-storing levelers
Pit-style levelers leave a gap at the floor that destroys cold-side temperatures. Vertical-storing levelers seal flush and are standard in modern cold facilities.
Air locks and rapid-roll doors
A high-speed door at the cold/ambient transition cuts temperature loss dramatically. Pair with an air curtain for best results.
Ice management
Ice on tracks and seals is the #1 cause of dock door damage in cold facilities. Heated thresholds and routine de-icing are required, not optional.
